Projects

We’re involved in a number of projects around QM, from big central initiatives to working closely with departments on local e-learning developments. These include:

Teaching Refurbishment Project Working Group

This is a major project to refurbishment many of the teaching rooms around the College. We’re providing advice on the technology going in to rooms, lecture capture systems, and the design of learning spaces.

Using Social Network Sites to Foster Informal Learning and Intercultural Awareness

This project uses a social network site (SNS) to foster informal learning and intercultural reflection in students in modern languages who are going, or planning to go, on a year abroad. See here for web pages about the project.

Student Information Systems Project

We have a presence on the Project Board to implement the new SIS across QM. We also Chair a sub-group, about integrating the SIS with the VLE. For any questions about how this project affects e-learning, contact Sam Brenton, Head of E-Learning.

Department of English VLE Project

This project follows the decision in the Department of English to review its implementation of the College’s e-learning strategy. We have worked closely with the department to develop a model to integrate the VLE fully into their first year undergraduate programmes. The project won a Drapers’ Prize in 2008 for Developments in Learning and Teaching, and following positive evaluations from both students and staff, it is currently being extended to include year 2 modules and programmes from the Department of Drama.

Joint Programme (Beijing-London)

The Department of Electronic Engineering has been piloting the use of the VLE in supporting the programmes they run jointly with the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT). We have worked closely with the department to provide additional resources and teaching support via the VLE to Chinese students and teaching staff in Beijing.

Q-Review – lecture capture

We run the project to trial the ECHO 360 lecture capture system. We’re calling the service at QM ‘Q-Review’. More details here about this pilot.

Other project groups, committees.

We also advise various other fora across QM, including the Mile End Library PWG, the Plagiarism sub group, the Student Portal PWG, the Learning, Teaching and Assessment Committee, the SMD E-Learning Group. We run the E-Learning Practitioners’ Group and co-manage the regional M25 Learning Technology Group.

If you’re interested in knowing more about the e-learning elements of the above projects, please get in touch.
