Name change on college VLE

Dear Users,

As you are aware we will shortly be taking the VLE offline for the rollover period. This will start on the 24th of August. Details of what to expect from rollover can be found here: http://www.esd.qmul.ac.uk/webct/staff/#rollover

We will also be taking the opportunity to make some changes to the system and how it works at QM. Most of these changes will be behind-the-scenes however one you’ll notice right away; the name of the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) will be changing.

The product used at QMUL is currently called CE6. The ‘WebCT CE’ series has been installed at QM for a number of years. CE stands for ‘Campus Edition’. Three years ago the parent company, WebCT, merged with a company called Blackboard. Blackboard also have their own VLE called ‘Blackboard Learn’.

Both products, CE and Learn, have continued to be supported in parallel and we currently run ‘Blackboard Learning System’ (which is what WebCT CE is now called) Technically we are on version CE8.

To reflect this and ease confusion over the product we are changing the name of the VLE at QMUL to Blackboard.

This name change will take place over the Rollover period.
